The BF and I ventured to a popular lunch spot, Yolk, during a recent Chicago stay-cation. I had heard great things about Yolk and their three locations in the city, and was excited to check it out. We headed to the Streeterville location which is bright and airy. I loved the massive brunch bar that allows you to see right into the open kitchen and how they weave their egg-y theme into the color scheme, light fixtures, and other details.
Moving along to the food. Yolk's menu is MASSIVE. From pancakes to benedicts to omelets and sandwiches, page after page of their menu features delicious options. It seemed like most options featured one or two interesting additions to breakfast staples, which I appreciated.

After several cups of coffee (Yolk features Chicago's own
Metropolis Coffee) and telling our server, "we need some more time," we both decided to get one of their ingredient-stuffed frittatas. The BF went with the Sante Fe Frittata which featured bacon, avocado, a three cheese blend, jalapenos, green onions, red potatoes and a side of salsa. This was one hearty dish and they certainly did not spare any spice!

My Tuscan Frittata included diced chicken breast, sun dried tomatoes, basil, goat cheese and red potatoes. I opted for egg whites and it was still utterly delicious. The goat cheese combined with the basil and sun dried tomatoes offered a unique flavor combination that livened up plain old eggs.

I tend to go with the more savory options on brunch menus, but I couldn't help but notice the large selection of sweet pancakes and crepes on Yolk's menu. I decided to get a side of their homemade buttermilk pancakes which were fluffy, light and a perfect sweet contrast to my savory egg-ceptional frittata!

We truly enjoyed our laid back brunch at Yolk and loved the brightness of the dining room. I can't speak for the other two locations, but I was pleased with the service, quality and ambiance at the Streeterville location. If you're looking to break free from the standard scrambled egg and toast breakfast routine, I highly recommend a trip to Yolk. I give Yolk 4.5 stars for their creative breakfast offerings, bright environment and delicious flapjacks. I'll definitely be back to try some of their (apparently) famous strawberry orange juice!

I love Yolk but WOW is the wait long on the weekends at the River North location (maybe the others as well). Definitely worth it though. The skillets are amazing!
ReplyDeleteIt was great! Maybe try out the Streeterville location. I've heard the wait is not as long there!
