In an effort to bake something fun for a friend's barbecue using only ingredients I had on hand, I decided to whip up a batch of brownies using a mixture of recipes. I had recently acquired a jar of cocoa almond spread (the poor man's Nutella) and was in a hurry to use it up before I ended up eating the entire jar at 3am on a Saturday. I figured the spread would make any brownie recipe moist and sweet so I added it into a recipe I found on Foodily (great recipe website and app-- get it!) and a recipe for brownies I had made several months ago from Hershey's website. The result was quite an interesting brownie, one I can only describe as having an interesting "mouthfeel". I learned not many people are familiar with this term when I brought the brownies to the barbecue, but all I can say is they simply disintegrate in your mouth. One friend even referred to them as "Passover brownies", hence, having the flavor of a flour-less brownie. The brownies had a rich chocolate flavor due to the spread and the added cocoa, but were just all around odd when you took a bite. A friend of mine said I should post my recipe "flops" to my blog, so, here you have it, the closest thing to a recipe mess-up, thus far!
All of your ingredients |
Add 1/2 cup of flour to a bowl |
Add 1/4 tsp baking powder |
Stir in 1/4 tsp salt |
In a separate bowl crack two eggs |
Add about 1/2 cup of Nutella or cocoa almond spread, or as much as your heart desires, & add 1/2 cup of sugar |
Very appetizing at this point |
Add 1 tsp vanilla |
Pour in 1/2 cup (1 stick) of melted butter |
Beat on low-medium speed until all wet ingredients are incorporated |
Add 1/3 cup of cocoa to your dry ingredients |
Slowly add dry ingredients to wet ingredients |
Again, beat on low-medium speed until dry ingredients are incorporated |
Pour in some chocolate chips, I used about 1 cup or so |
Fold chocolate chips into the brownie batter |
Spread brownie batter evenly into a 9X9 or 8X8 greased pan |
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean |
Cool completely and cut into 16 squares |
