MORE Pumpkin Cinnamon Cream Cheese

Although you might think that cupcake shops in Chicago are a dime a dozen, each one typically serves a particular niche. Enter: MORE. This walk-in cupcake boutique in the Gold Coast features high-quality ingredients and gourmet flavors. Each of their cupcakes comes complete with a signature garnish that is artfully crafted and pairs perfectly with each flavor.

Each Tuesday, the folks at MORE post a different cupcake of the week on their Facebook profile. If you're one of the first 50 people to tag your name in the photo, you can stop by that week to claim a free cupcake! After dreaming of a free MORE cupcake (literally--I dreamt I tagged a MORE cupcake!), I finally was able to tag one on a Tuesday (they go quickly!). This time around they were tagging their Pumpkin Cinnamon Cream Cheese cupcake.

I stopped by on a Saturday to claim mine and grab one for the BF. I ordered him the Chocolate Hazelnut cupcake so mine wouldn't be lonely. The Pumpkin Cinnamon Cream Cheese smelled like heaven out of the box, but unfortunately fell short when it came to flavor. The frosting was amazing- not-too-sweet and perfectly seasoned with cinnamon spice. However, the pumpkin cake was very dry (almost stale) and tasted more like a cornbread muffin than a cupcake. The garnish on top was a pumpkin seed brittle-- a perfect combination that made me long for October! This was the best part! However, I was disappointed because it seems like every other cupcake I've tried from MORE was right on target. Why did this one fall short? For example:


Red Velvet: BEST IN THE CITY (moistest (is that a word?) cake I've tried)
Black and White: Tasty and not too sweet
Salted Caramel: Deliciously oozed out caramel, but I didn't care for the buttercream frosting
Chocolate Hazelnut: Decadently rich and indulgent. Chocolate lovers unite!

I apologize that I don't have pictures of the others, but take my word--they were delicious. If you're looking for a fancy dessert that's as sweet to look at, as it is tasty, stop by MORE. I give MORE Cupcakes 3 stars for their artfully crafted desserts and the fact that they give out so much cupcake love to their loyal fans! They have a great team behind them and are always bending over backwards to make their cupcake groupies happy! My quest to find some MORE favorites continues...I just probably won't be ordering the Pumpkin Cinnamon Cream Cheese anytime soon!
